9000things is a design studio and brick & mortar shop in Somerville. We specialize in colorful home decor and accessories with an eye towards sustainability. We design everything in house and hand make a big chunk of our line. We also like throwing fun public events and have strong ties to the small biz community in Boston.

We’re looking for creative and outgoing sales and production staff to help us expand our product line and plan for the holidays. If you are detail oriented, a quick learner and feel comfortable engaging with strangers then get in touch. If you are looking for insight into owning and growing a small creative business, this job would be great for you!

The gig:

We’re coming up on our busiest season - the fall and into the holidays. We’re looking for someone to work at least one day a week from now until about Dec 20th. Ideally, you can work some weekend days and are looking for more hours as we get further into fall and December.

Some of your responsibilities may include:

  • Making and finishing products; cutting, sanding, painting, hammering, etc

  • Packaging, labeling & stickering finished product

  • Contacting & managing wholesalers and consignment accounts

  • Packing/shipping wholesale and online orders, buying supplies, picking up orders

  • Helping customers and answering questions in our retail shop

  • General shopkeeping; sweeping, tracking inventory, washing the occasional window

  • Helping organize and throw events at our location in Bow Market

  • Photographing products for social media & e-commerce

  • Updating website, facebook, ig, making events, etc

  • Brainstorming new products, new packaging, marketing strategy

We provide training on all of the skills you need to make our products and watch the shop. Pay is $12-15 depending on your current experience, plus bonuses for hitting goals.


A few requirements:

  • Punctuality and reliability are the most important!

  • Must be available to work some Sundays in September & October

  • Please commit to work with us through December 20th, 2018 (and hopefully longer!)

  • Must be comfortable talking to customers & outgoing and friendly while in the shop

Bonus points if you:

  • Already have retail experience or have used Square POS

  • Went to art school or are an artist or maker or DIYer

  • Want to work more than one day per week in November/December

  • Are proficient in Illustrator & Photoshop or other photo editing programs

  • Want to start your own brand or handmade business

  • Have design, ecommerce, web updating, styling, branding or marketing experience

  • Really like color :)
